DESCRIPTION:
\n	Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemorat
ion of the ending of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is meant to
commemorate African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievem
ent today. Like the Juneteenth holiday\, the Museum’s Juneteenth</
strong> program is meant to commemorate African American freedom and empha
sizes education and achievement today. Our goal is to partner with local
African American community members and organizations to teach children tha
t freedom brings opportunity\, which can lead to success. We want kids to
recognize that opportunity comes in many forms\, including formal educatio
n\, mentoring and hands-on experience. Our focus will be to tie the connec
tion between freedom\, opportunity and success to New Orleans culture. We
will focus on the journeys and accomplishments of local musicians\, Mardi
Gras Indians\, chefs\, and other successful community members. We want to
feature how each person became successful through different opportunities
and how many are providing opportunities for local youth through mentoring
programs. We want to encourage kids to be self-confident\, set personal g

so want children to recognize their strengths and to be proud of who they
